Justin A.
Private tutor in Central Islip, NY
Education
I was an English major and a Philosophy and Anthropology minor in college at SUNY Plattsburgh. Although I did not finish my Bachelor's degree, to take time off as a father, I am seeking to return for Adult education courses, soon, to finish what I started.
Experience
I have worked for Upward Bound and Score! Education center. The former was specifically with High School Young Adults and the latter with K-12. I want to be a tutor because I am passionate about imparting the knowledge I have and seeing another person grasp the ideas and concepts that come alive in literature and art or even in the delight for exploring abstract thought that philosophy draws you into through the dialectical method between mentor and student. I firmly believe that one of the core necessities for being an engaged and informed citizen before participating in the democratic process is to develop a high degree of critical thinking that philosophy can hone and an appreciation for the breadth and depth of the human experience that literature provides through aesthetic excellence. Besides having been an English major and Philosophy/Anthropology minor, I have ample "real world experience" as I also have a writing portfolio of published articles from local Long Island magazines reviewing Restaurants, Clubs, Music, writing Editorials etc

Hobbies
My interests include among other things reading fiction, philosophy, politics, cultural anthropology, and world affairs. I also write poetry (I have at least two volumes I am seeking to publish), Short stories, essays, etc. and write song lyrics and have a deep interest in music and have taught myself how to sing. I am very much interested in politics not just in the abstract but in praxis as I have a long history of political engagement through grass-roots campaigns and other forms of Political activism.
